On June 4th the first SlutWalk of The Netherlands will be held in Amsterdam. The manifestation will start at 16.00h at the Homo-monument and will lead from the square to the gay monument. SlutWalk promotes sexual freedom and autonomy and celebrates the empowerment of diversity.
After the overwhelming success of SlutWalk Toronto, all sluts, dykes, fags, trans, queers and queens of The Netherlands will spread through the city to advocate sexual diversity, bodily autonomy, eccentricity and peculiarity. They protest against a society in which victims of sexual assault are being blamed, gays and lesbians are afraid to hold hands in public and transgender people are seen as ‘unnatural’ beings. SlutWalk wants to stimulate knowledge and reduce ignorance within politics, but, more importantly, through educational programmes from primary school all the way to universities.
“SlutWalk wants to make a statement against the increasing pressure in society to behave normal”, says press officer Mirjam van Heugten. “In The Netherlands, women are taught not to be a slut, while men constantly have to guard their masculinity. The whore among women is the equivalent of the faggot among men. SlutWalk Amsterdam is a platform where sluts, dykes, fags and everyone in between and beyond does not have to feel strangled by the corset of Dutch morals.”
